yes a 5.0 and a 302 are the same motor. but in a 87-93 mustang fox bodys they used an H.O. version.... the difference is the firing order the roller cam the heads and the pistons. Firing order on a HO motor is... 1,3,7,2,6,5,4,8,..... non HO is... 1,5,4,2,6,3,7,8,... so in order to change between the two it is easiest to go straight to the computer ... located at the passenger side kick panel. and using a schematic for it, change the wires and terminals around so they match the 3,7,5,4 swap in the firing order. but if you get a new enough motor that also has the roller camshaft the firing order will remain the same as the HO. the mustang heads have an "E7" casting which have a little different valves and chambers. and the pistons in the HO are forged so they withstand more beating and heat. the easiest thing to do would be to find a early to mid 90's ford truck 5.0. all you have to do is switch the intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds and front accessory brackets. then you dont have to mess with the wiring and all. as long as its a roller cam motor its fine. Hope this helps some.

A 5.0 is a 302 The 302 means 302 CI and the 5.0 means 5.0 Liter, if your changing the firing order then you are gettin the 5.0 High Output or your gettin rid of the high output

Hi Renee, a 5.0 and a 302 are the same engine.
The fuel injected one has a roller cam and components, as long as I know the H.O. has a 351w firing order.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
