You are afraid to let the people get to know you too well too soon. They already know more about you than you feel comfortable revealing, so, you tease them to keep them at bay. You started to do this when you were a child to protect you feelings. Now that you are older you forgot where and why it all started. You have probably even begun to rationalize the teasing as flirtacious banter. It isn't. It is just you being cautious.
