Maybe you can meet him half way hyphenate your name. If this doesn't work, then maybe tell him how important it means to you. Love is a two-way street and communication must be the sign post. Hope this helps. Good luck with your upcoming marriage.

Try explaining that everyone knows you by your own name. In business - where connections to people are important - changing your name could cause you problems.
I am divorced but kept the married name for this reason. Everyone I deal with knows me by that name. All of my licenses and certifications are in that name. If I change my name I would have to jump through about a million hoops to get all of my documents changed.
Men never have to go through this, so they don't know how much trouble changing a name can be. They don't know how it feels to give up the name you are born with and get used to another name.

Ask him if he would be willing to change his last name to yours. When he says no way, tell him that's how you feel about it. If he says yes, take him up on it. Actually, I know of a few couples who both took each others' last names and hyphenated.

You may want to try something different his time, maybe your marriage may be successful. It sounds to me like you are not ready to dedicate yourself to a marriage, you may need to think about getting married. It is a lot of hard work to make it and it sounds like you are preplanning your roadblocks.
If you decide to get married please do not bring children in the world that you know will be raised in a single parent fammily.

Juist add his name onto your name that way its not changing your name really, its making an adjustment like you know Barbara Meredith Jones-Walters Jones being the maiden and Walters being the married...thats my plan..makes it more sophisticated
