I have to agree with Fanny. I used PODS for my last move. So much easier to load & unload. You don't have to worry about the truck breaking down. Best part? You can take your sweet time on the loading and unloading.

The cost was within $10 of what a rental truck was going to be BEFORE I had to pay for fuel.

But, if you really want to rent a truck don't use U-Haul. Any tow truck driver who works the Interstate system will tell you that they tow more U-Hauls than all other rental trucks combined.

We moved my parents half way across the county and Penske was a better 1 way deal. Also, the penske trucks are up kept a lot better than Uhal and drive smoother/are more comfortable, in my experience anyway.

It doesnt matter the distance but Penske if you get a new one is way more comfortable a ride than uhaul the seats are individuals not a bench.

I recently moved across the country from So.Cal to Alabama and checked out U-Haul and other trucking companies, After the math and the stresses of hauling my things, pulling a car with the price of gas and the possibility of breaking down wheeew, I went with PODS. If you have a complete house full of items and it won't fit in one normal size U-Haul then consider PODS. Another way to do this is to call moving Co's. sometimes they have a load going where you are moving and won't charge so much if is close and fills the truck. Hope this helps.

There is no way that anyone can answer that. How large is "large"? Measure the crate, then go to a U-Haul location, explain what you need to the clerks and see if you can take some measurements of the cab space. If it fits on the seat, then you can pack some things into the foot well that will help support the end of the crate that might stick out over the edge.
