i don't know, i know that the one where you have a necklase w/ a pendant, and hav it hanging fromyou hand, and put your palm under it, and if it swings it's a boy, and if it goes in circles its a girl....it's basically superstitious, but it does have soem truth to it. i wouldn't put money on it, but i might believe it...

Diana_84 is correct. Here is why.

A needle at the end of a string is a variation of the old wedding band on the end of the string test. You can hold the string over any part of your anatomy, or over a table, or a friend can hold it over your head.

What you are doing is creating a pendulum. And because of the rotation of the earth, every pendulum goes back and forth, then in an oval (some ovals look a bit like circles), then back and forth, and finally in an oval in the other direction.

If you were in a laboratory and if the pendulum was 36 feet long, the cycle from back and forth to oval might take 24 hours, while the earth rotated under the pendulum. But you're at a baby shower, and the person holding the pendulum can't stay still for two seconds, and the unconscious movement sends the pendulum in either an oval (circle) or a straight line.

Try doing it this way. Make the string at least 18 inches long. Hold the pendulum for at least two minutes. See if it doesn't go in all directions during those two minutes. If it goes in all directions, you are going to have two girls and two boys, or maybe it's just a cute pastime for a baby shower.

It not only works...if you hold it over your wrist (someone else has to hold it) it will predict the number of children you will have, in gender order, and will include miscarriages (and I'm wondering if it includes stepkids as well, lol) The reason being...when I was a teenager, my mom did it to me, and I pulled my hand back after it got to 6, and said I didn't want to see anymore! Right now, at nearly 34, I have 3 children, 2 stepchildren, and have had 2 miscarriages. I want to let my mom do this again, and this time, I won't pull my hand back! I haven't thought of the needle/string thing for years.

Well if everyone else disagrees maybe their just having bad luck, because everytime i've taken the string test its been correct, both with my daughter and now with my son.

I think you have to poke yourself in the belly with the needle and listen to the pitch of the scream.

doesn't work, there's no way to determine for sure whether it's aboy or girl until the day its born. Heartrate of the fetus as no significance either, or whether you carry it high or low
