I have a lennox whisper heat gas furnace (about 20 years old). I sometimes have to trip a reset switch on the flame throw out sensor ( Believe that is what it was called) to have the burners ignite and for it to start heating again. I replaced the sensor and had the chimney inspected for obstructions. The inspector found none and said the furnace had a sufficent draw. What else could be causing the furnace to stop heating?

I am a furnace repairman. Sounds to me like the burners are rusted or dirty. Could also have soot build up inside the heat exchanger. Make sure nothing is in front of orifices where the gas enters the burners. It would be best to call a pro to look at it. I would not blow anything out if I were you. I have been to several houses where someone did that and they had soot everywhere. And yes gas furnaces can create soot.

The purpose of a rollout switch is to stop the furnace before carbon monoxide builds up in the dwelling. You appear to have a problem with the drafting or the flame is impinging on the sensor for some other reason. If the situation continues harm may come to the furnace and/or the occupants. The inspector apparently missed the cause of the problem, so call a heating contractor and get it checked. Good luck.

NOOO I believe she means simply a flame sensor photo eye switch.....all it does it make sure you have flame before you pump oil or gas into the furnace,,,,sometimes it simply gets dirty and needs to be taken out and cleaned!

could be something simple, could be something serious. Please pay the $100 to get a pro over to check it. It could be a cracked heat exchanger which is very serious and would require replacing the furnace. Call for help it is worth knowing that you will go to bed and wake up in the morning.

There is usually a screen over the gas valve that can get dirty. Clean it out and replace - it'll probably be running like new there-after!
