Yes,children should be smacked, though not abused by smacking them too hard,we were smacked by the police (for minor offences) ,smacked by parents for being cheeky, caned at school, never backed by parents for being cheeky to our elders...we are a nice law abiding society,if you disagree look around you now at todays kids...enough said !!!

Absolutely yes as long as it's not a beating! Since even a gentle smack on the butt has been called 'abuse' by some, most parents don't do it anymore... and what we are seeing (in general, not all) are a bunch of rude, disrespectful, arrogant children with little or no discipline because parents aren't sure how to discipline anymore. There are no real guidelines and nobody wants to be accused of being abusive when they're just PARENTING. A smack in the butt isn't always the answer, but putting Little Johnny in the "happy chair" for bad behavior doesn't work. Neither do "time outs" for children over 5 y/o. Talking nicely to children in the hopes that they'll understand the error of their ways isn't a deterrent, either. Sometimes, a mild 'wakeup' is in order.
My parents rarely hit me, very rarely... but I knew if I drove them to that point, that I earned it. It was a deterrent not born of fear, but of respect.

Depends on what you mean by "hit". I wqas brought up in a church where the children had to be "disciplined". In my experience, physical discipline can make barriers between children. If it is your only source of discipline, with little talking things through, explanation etc it can be very damaging. I think it should be used moderately and only when a child refuses to obey you.
Too many times I hit first and asked questions later. More important than "discipline" is teaching your child to behave.

Yes i do. There is a difference between a discipline hitting and child abuse. Kids need to learn, they get away with way too much now a days because parents are afraid to discipline them in ways that would get their attention.

I have 2 beautiful lil' girls that are my world. Tho they may drive me bananas, at times, I still feel limit myself to putting my hands on them. My hands are the hands that love & nurture them NOT beat them. But, I do NOT totally disagree with a lil' butt-spankin' as a last resort if need be, either. So, this is kind of a contradictory very touch issue. It all depends on exactly what u mean by "hitting" ur children for discipline.

If you hit children, any children, its a sign of failure.
The only legitimate feeling is to be loving, nurturing and protective.
I know that they drive you to distraction at times but if it gets to be too much and you feel you might become violent, its best to ask for help.
If you do hit them it will destroy your relationship and you will regret it in the long run.
Your main role in life is to give your children a happy childhood.

Yes, a smack on the bottom won't do any harm. The world is going mad, firstly they tell us it's wrong to smack our children (it didn't do me any harm), and then the belt was banned in schools. How are children supposed to be disciplined. It can't be done at home, and it can't be done in schools. I dread to think what the future holds.

NO I think that is pointless...
When I was a child my mom used to do that me and my brothers up until high school and as of rigt now we do not speak at all..
I have children and I do not hit them I jsut talk to them what is hitting going to do... You explain to them why they can or can not do something thats all talking is much better
They are not dogs you cant beat them into doing what you want them to do

No you should continue to take away their Ipods and gameboys and hope they don't grow up to be Columbine kids! Heck ya you should! I had my butt whooped and I never once tried to blow up a school. They must know the real world is a lot worse! If they do something wrong in society, they won't put them in timeout. Prison is far worse than a smack on the backside!
