Calendars have no beginning or end date. A calendar is a measure of time,

If you are asking "when was the Aztec Calendar in general use?", that is how you should have worded the question.

All calendars go forever. But I think you are confusing the Mayan people and the Aztec (two different cultures which shared only SOME features). The hype right now is about the Mayan Long Count calendar (which the Aztecs didn't use) "ending" in 2012. But it's all just confusion. The 12th Baktun of their calendar ends (a baktun is 396 years long--it's like our calendar going from 1999 to 2000) and some think this means the whole thing ends. But it doesn't.
