its an interesting question! let start off by saying i rate Rafa highly. i also agree that pool fans shouldn't loose fate yet! its early days yet in the season!

i start off by putting a few 'off the point' questions to you.
1) Do you feel Rafa believes steven gerrard is a complete central midfielder.
2)Does Rafa believe steven can duplicate the specific qualitys that Sissoko and Alonso offer to the team.

anyway:
it seems quite apparent the Rafa is in favour of squad rotation at the moment. i not going to comment on the merits/negatives of this.
But i do find the exact rotation a bit bizarre, and i do feel he has picked the wrong side in the last two league matchs particulary, which may have been avoidable.

1)take the everton match:
why did bellamy not start.. this was a game made for bellamy. surely Rafa realised the everton would be 'up and at them' from the start. if a opponent is going to press you...then it stands by logic, that space will occur either in front of the their defence or behind the their defence...in which a player of pace and technic can profit. ie bellamy.
take the chelsea match:
chelsea are a team who for the most part set themselves up defensively deep..they don't offer up much space behind the defence, and there midfield offers alot of 'containing' protection.. so not a great deal of space in front of the defence either. so not the easiest for bellamys game to shine. but its an ideal game for crouchs qualitys. and he has been a handful for chelsea to deal with in the past. and as he was when he came on today.

So why did he not play bellamy v everton and crouch v chelsea? he would still be rotating his squad, but the rotation would be yielding up players more appropriate for the task..winning football matches.

2)i find it strange that steven was rested mid week against psv, so that he could be used on the left wing today verses chelsea. whatever the merits of playing him on the right wing or central midfield, but changing him to another third position is surely a dilution of his qualitys, and possibly could have negative effects on his form. i also feel that gerrard on the left wing is way out of position for him..surly Zenden would have been a comparable on the left wing at least.
Rotaton is understandable, but surly one wants to try and keep players playing regulary in the same one or two postions.
It is as if Rafa is using steven to fill the final hole in the teamsheet.

At the end of the day, rotation is okay if you getting results. its counter productive if you are not, since you probably wont be able to rotate later if results become more crucial! ie it becomes counter productive to its own aims.

maybe Rafa has long term targets and realises that his team may be a bit jadded...they had one of the longest seasons last year of any team...and he trying to recuperate the team somewhat! so i not going to condemn him for adopting a rotation policy. but it does seem to the casual observer that he may be foresaking his the best team for the day, never mind his first 11.

I think he is still finding out his best team . With Kuyt & Bellamy here ,he has too play every1 in all positions to see what works best. Let`s not question the mind of a genius , he`ll get it right and we`ll be back where we belong .

i agree...
in Liverpool we trust, and so does Rafa Benitez...
i believe he knew his team,,,and it's job for any coach to find good compotition for his best 11...
even if it means didnt put a player in his regular postion...maybe that's right and succes to beat the opponent...
About Stevie G, he's a greta player and he's able to play in any side of mid-field maybe he just not get too usually for his new position...
YNWA!!!

IN RAFA WE TRUST... Do you know we got to keep the European Cup, partly because of this man. The doubters where out before that too, and early last season... KEEP THE FAITH.
