First you call the postoffice (often only a 1-800 #) and they begin to take care of it but you also have to mark the mail that slips through by accident "moved" and put it back in the box for the mailman to remove. If you ever run across the former resident tell him or her what is happening and that the post office does not forward it to them without a change of address to send the mail to. Right now all mail is being returned to sender so if the intended recipient wants their mail they better get a change of address card from either the local post office or their mail carrier who has them too, fill it out, mail it, and they will start getting their mail. If you want you can put advance notice up too-post a sign on your box that so and so does not live here at all. Put it where the mail carrier will not miss it. That is how it is done, good luck.

Well, the best and the most repectfully thing to do is to send it back to the post office, they will do one of this:
1) return the letters, for ex. if it came from a bank, the bank will know what to do.
2) put it in reserve, just in case the person comes back for it
3) just throw it away, that happens when you live in a small town and and tracing back the owner is TOO difficult,
but most of the post office will do either 1 or 2. PLZ DO NOT THROW IT AWAY, because if the guy comes back for it, he can press charges against mail-tampering. Just send it back and tell the post office do not send the letters adressed to ur guy to ur house again.

Go to your local post office and tell them that you now live at this address. The original people should have submitted a forwarding address. The other thing you can do is go to your realtor and see if he can get a phone number of the people you bought the house from.

write return to sender, not at this address and put it back in the PO Box, it puts the ball in the Post Office's court and releases you from mail theft liability

Write on the envelope "does not live here" and put in the mailbox- let the post office worry about it. Hope this helps!

If you've tried putting "no longer at this address" on it and it still keeps coming I would go to the post office and tell them your dilemma. I'm sure they would have a solution for you.

Just keep putting it in your outgoing mail with a note "not here" and the postman will get tired of delivering it to you.

I would contact the local post office about it, or if possible let the mailman know.
