Graph The Inequality Y 1

Each inequality has a related equality.
In this case it is y = 1 which is a horizontal line through 1 on the y-axis. This line divides the plane into two regions called half planes. This line is called the "edge" or "boundary line" for two half-planes. The graph of the solution to the inequality is one of the half planes. Since the y values must be greater than 1 the graph must be the half plane above the horizontal line, so shade that region. Also, since y is not equal to 1 the line is not part of the graph of y > 1. The way to distinguish as to whether the line is part of the graph or not is to make it dotted if the inequality does not include "equal to". In your case the line is dotted. If the question was to graph y >= 1, then you would make the line a solid line. Hopes this helps for any future problems.

Find positive one on the Y axis. Then, draw a horizontal and dashed line. Now shade all of the graph above that dashed line. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE LINE IS DASHED AND THAT YOU DO THE SHADING! (This is not for a number line. This is for a full coordinate plane.)
