Very normal. Chameleons do not like being handled or having another chammy in with it. They are solitary and do not like being messed around with. Trying to get them to come to you when they don't want to is very stressing for them. I have had mine for three years and she doesnt like being touched period. She doesn't even like her own reflection. My advise is just let him/her be. She/he can be awesome just to look at, so don't push it. His/her health is far more important than your need to pick him/her up. When they get used to you they can eat right out of your hand with that longass sticky tongue. That, my friend is cooler than carrying it on your finger, and more entertaining. If you want a small lizard you can hold, get a leopard gecko, mine is great also.

Chameleons aren't particularily social creatures and, given the choice, will probably choose to avoid being handled.

How long have you had it most chamellions like to know whats around them he/she might since something on your hands make sure you have washed your hands he/she will get use to you but if you have had him for awhile than he may be frightend if you moved very fast at him/her it depends on how you act around him/her.

Yes, think about it, they're small and vulnerable and there's this massive hand coming toward them, I think they'd be stupid if they DIDN'T run... It'll take them a bit to get used to you.
