I'm just looking for a good college with high standards and beautiful scenery.

U.C. Berkely is probably the best academically close to the Ocean. GOOO CAL! Seriously though, it's a really good school and is quite close to the Ocean (And even closer to the Bay).

San Francisco State University (4 blocks from my house!!!!) is pretty well off academically, and you can see the Ocean from several places on campus.

U.C. Santa Cruz's campus is FANTASTIC! Its a very good school academically (All U.C.'s are), and the Beach at Santa Cruz is like the best beach ever!

The Beach owns though, dude, you should totally goto College in Cali.

UC Santa Cruz, otherwise known as UCSC or Uncle Charlie's Summer Camp, was like a summer camp for spoiled teens when I went there for two quarters in the 80s
UC Santa Barbara is an aesthetically ugly campus on a beautiful location, and the Isla Vista community right north of campus where thousands of students live in crappy apartments does not look much better than a federal housing project, but again this was in the 80s

It depends what you want to major in? Class sizes important? etc...
