Build momentum and it makes it easier. Biomechanically, you use less of the quads when you run.

Could be something to do with the fact that if you walked up stairs it would be slower than the speed you normally walk at. Therefore to keep the same rate of movement, you run up and it balances out. It might be the way of keeping the body in a regular routine.

You don’t need to exercise for hours on end. Short, sharp sets of exercise will produce better results in the event you work hard. Get a bypassing rope, skip for two units, do push ups for 60 seconds or so, skip for two minutes, rest for just one minute. Then change the push nearly something else like sit ups along with do the set again. Repeat it five times and it’s an instant, effective workout that will recover results than a long operate or swim.

Good question!
My conclusion:
That walking upstairs isn't something enjoyable really is it? So might as well run and get it over with.
Saying that, in public I walk up the stairs: would be too embarrasing if I tripped up!

just thought of this, i am a stair runner upper ( don't know what the scientific name is for it) and i think it may be related to the same reaction as when you trip or almost fall off a chair, in that if your stablility is compromised in some way you automatically speed up to uncompromise your stability.

Have never seen that, people run upstairs only if they are in a hurry, and really need to get fast up - before the lift arrives there and their enemy gets first into their boss's office!

Set performance-based goals. Always set yourself incrementally larger goals each week to be certain you’re engaged and have something to shoot for. Each little achievement is also a reward that you’re going in the right direction. From doing 10 more squats to mastering a fresh yoga pose, whatever floats your boat.
