Don't mean to be strange, trying to pin point a time line for a story I am writing, and want it to be true to the event.

I think that first fella had a bit of a typo...it was August 29, 2005. However, it didn't actually hit New Orleans. The storm hit early that morning (it was daylight of course) and lasted ALLLLLLL day...it went allllll the way up Mississippi and caused damage in the northeast actually! Tropical weather is rather low and can be flown over by airplans, if I got that right.

I live in south Mississippi...we didn't have any roofs to be sitting on after the storm because ours were all gone....New Orleans was lucky they had places still there....but that's another story entirely....the great battle of Mississippi vs. New Orleans

Hurricane Katrina hit on August 26, 2005. It was safe for helicopters to fly sometime in the afternoon. The answer is pretty much with the American Red Cross. I would suggest you contact then by phone or email. Good luck on the story!

Go to lsp.org and send them an email. They will probably be very happy to answer your question. The earliest I remember seeing helicopters was later in the evening on Aug 29. I live about 30 miles north of New Orleans.
