I think I need 2 witnesses in California. Is it also a good idea to have it notarized?

Yes, having it notarized is a really good idea, then you will have a legal document stating your wishes.

Any time you execute an important document like a will, the more witnesses you can get, the better. This means that your wishes will be carried out as you want them to be, and your estate won't be tied up in court while your heirs squabble over details.

A notary public is an independant witness - someone who will sign on and say, "Yes, I saw this person sign this document, and I believe that they intended to sign it."

So, yes - several witnesses, and a notary are a good idea. If you don't know a notary, your bank will usually have one.

Go to a UPS Store or Mail Boxes Etc. They can witness/notarize it.

If you have 2 witnesses, typically, you do not need it to be notarized. Make sure the two witnesses do not have a vested interest in the contents of your will.
