for those who care...the sun will sustain us for about 5.5 MILLION years...not trillion.
but by then, humans will be able to transverse the universe...SO, I think when the andromeda galaxy collides with the Milky Way galaxy, that will be the end of humans...but that wont be for about 20 million years

come on people...global warming is not a threat to us...you guys who say global warming does not exist are not looking at the facts. The fact is that Global warming does exist. Every few 100,000 years the Earth goes through a heating and cooling cycle. It has happened since the beginging of the Earth, it would still be happening whether humans were here or not. The fact is one volcanoe eruption puts more greenhouse gases in the air then all of mankind could put in ten years. The ocean is also a huge contributer. Without the existance of humans, and this is proven, the temperature would only be about 2 degrees cooler then it already is.
The point is humans may contribute to the warming, but it is so small of a difference that it does not really matter. The Earth would be warming with or without us.
Whoever argues for or against Global Warming, get your facts strait. I dont care what your beliefs are, but atleast look something up before you say it.

Ignoring an extinction event, I would say we are here to stay. Civilisation may end due to things we do or nature does, but there will always be pockets of humans left, and we have intelligence to counter much of what would wipe out the breeding capacity of certain animal species.
Remember, humans not only came through the ice age, its hardships enabled us to invent lots of fine tools and methods (for example, needles for sewing clothes, hooks for fishing, knives for fine cutting), that burgeoned into industries not long after the ice age ended.

I doubt that the homo sapiens will become extinct at all. We have reached a technological advancement that at least gives man an opportunity to survive as a species almost no matter what environmental factors are encountered. Our kind will likely proliferate eventually far beyond our small galaxy and populate the cosmos. Millions of years allow a lot of time for a few more Einsteins and such to solve the practical problems that exist. We may even evolve into 'better' homo sapiens. Of course some theists may assert that a G-d of some type might change my scenario in one of several ways. I hope not. I hope that man can overcome the physical challenges of any eventuality, learn to be completely moral, learn to not kill one another, nor to make war, nor to hate and to enjoy living within a utopian society. Perhaps, perhaps........

the sun will sustain us for another few billion years, not million. the human race will go extinct long before that i should think. so far we haven't even been around as long as the neanderthal lasted, and given the way we're treating our ecological niche we'll probably manage to kill ourselves off. if we don't do that, we'll be finished off by one of the regular extinction events that push evolution forward, an asteroid might collide with the earth, yellowstone might blow, a massive solar flare might fry us - on the whole there is no reason to assume that we'll exist even tomorrow, let alone in a couple of million years.

I think that so-called "civilization as we know it" will end with nuclear weapons, before the end of the 21st century.
However, I think humans may survive indefinitely, in a much more chaotic situation. I think it is possible that our descendents will actually be around for many millions of years, perhaps as long as our solar system exists. If astronomers are right, that could be billions of years. Of course, during that long a time, our species would have evolved in directions that would be totally unrecognizeable to us today..
A lot of it depends upon whether our species can become more mature, and if we can outgrow ancient superstitions (religion) which have caused so many wars throughout history. Religion is an enemy of progress.

Actually, according to most astronomical sources, the Sun will not exhaust its hydrogen fuel and turn into a red giant for about 5 Billion not million years.
But, anyway, I think the human race will end like all races end. There's going to be a winner.

the human race will probably end due to global warming, if u notice the time is getting hotter and hotter.....one day all of the atmosphere around the earth that protects us from the dangerous ultraviolet rays of the Sun will be completely destroyed.....since there is no protection, the heat from the Sun, (which is very very hott) will literally burn up the earth..

I'm all too afraid the thing we have to fear the most, is nuclear war. It could easily happen within our lifetimes. I am hopeful however, that we will not be allowed to destroy ourselves. I'm under the impression that we are being closely watched by several different highly advanced extraterrestrial civilizations. Hopefully one or more of them will step in to save our necks.

The worst enemy of a man is another man. So, if humanity will fail, humans are the one responsible, not hazard or "nature".

I predict a supervolcano will wipe out the human race, but that this won't occur for the next 1,000-2,000 years.
