If you're talking about small burns (like from cigarettes), you can 'remove' them by cutting the burned fibers off. Don't cut down into the backing. Purchase fabric repair powder from a fabric store. It's like the shiny side on the back of iron-on stuff, but in a powdered form. Sprinkle a bit of the powder into the bald spot you made where the burn was. Clip some fibers from a spot no one will see (a corner or under a piece of furniture) and put them on top of the powder. Heat a steam iron with the steam on. Hold it over the repair, but do not touch the iron to it. Let the heat penetrate enough to melt the powder. Press the fibers down gently. Let it cool and voile!

with a small razor blade, use the tip to gently shave away the burnt bits? That may only work if its a deep pile carpet but might be worth a go?? Also works if you spill paint, shave it away!!

sounds funny but use a razor to get it off you might lose a bit of the pile but its better than a burn mark.

Methinks you'll have to patch it with another piece of carpet or buy a new one.
