Are you talking about the desktop or laptop models? The area I live in is such that without ordering from sony directly I can expect to pay no less than $600.00 for a basic desktop model and about $800.00 for a basic laptop model. I hope this was helpful. The absolutly cheapest place for a used laptop is either a niegborhood yard sale or http://www.ebay.com

My Vaio just stopped working one day... wasn't the power source, wasn't anything fixable, just stopped. I lost everything, and Sony wanted like $100 or something just to talk to me about fixing it (had someone who knows computer stuff look at it instead). I've also heard of a lot of other people having the same problem with their Vaio, so consider that before buying one.

I have a Toshiba laptop now, and, so far, it's been working great.

Do you mean "Vaio"? There are a number of models. I'd start at sonystyle.com to get an idea of the models and then look online for the best prizes.

I have never seen one less than at about $1000.
