Eat what you can...small, tiny bites...choke it down as best you can. Perhaps follow each bite with a drink, water, beer, wine, etc... If they ask why you aren't having more you can say you saw your (mother, aunt, grandmother, girlfriend's grandma, etc) and you were forced to eat there and are full. Then be sure to say thank you so much for inviting me over!! Next time they want to get together for a meal, suggest a restaurant, your place or say your busy but can come by in time for dessert and coffee. Hope this helps!!

According to the etiquette gurus, try and eat one or two things on the plate that are the least offensive, take extra helpings of bread and whatever beverage is offered. Then compliment the meal, saying, "Everything was so delicious, I just can't eat another bite," which is lying, but white lies are permissible to spare one's feelings. Then if they comment on why you left your spinach gorgonzola on the plate, you'll have a diplomatic escape. Next time they invite you, suggest going out for dinner instead, to spare the hostess the task of cooking another horrific meal, and you eating it -- or trying to eat it.... Good luck!

Well I normally try a little of everything when one of best friend is a horrible cook. Then I just taste and see which one tastes the best and I only eat that. Or sometimes, I just eat it( even if it is the worst thing I tasted in my entire life!)
