Are there any good *free* ways to advertise and bring traffic to a new website?

First off you want to get listed on as many search engines as possible. Especially the popular ones like google and yahoo. You can from their home page click on list your site (or something similar). There are also websites that will list your site on many search engines for free. You can google free search engine listing.
There is also something called Meta Tags and you'll want to make sure you have good ones in your code. Spiders search based on these Meta Tags. Spiders are what search engines use to find sites to list. If there is a link to your site out there somewhere a spider may find it and search it. It will list your site appropriately by what is in the Meta Tags. You can google Meta Tag help (or something similar) and get free help with that too. Some of the free search engine listers also offer this free as well and I would suggest using it. You don't have to have any skill for this as the meta tag helps will analyse your site and write the meta tags for you.
Another way to drive traffic to your site is to do a search for similar sites and see if any of them are members of a web ring. Then join the web ring.
Also in time you can receive and offer awards and this can also drive traffic to your site.
Last of all you can add your web site addy as a signature on your email (this isn't spamming).

there are two things:
1) one is traffic
1) second is quality traffic
am talking about a website which has a 500 arround alexa traffic rank, and about 6/10 google's page rank.
get a free back link from this site, get a lot of free traffic, in this site you get free credits, and with that you get free traffic.

I wil tell you an easy solution...plz put some pages in ur site which is of general interest..like mobile sites,free mp3 and all..dont forget to add ur contents in search engine listing..
leave some true good addresses of some sites whichwill result in higher traffic..

Try thinking "off the web". Have you considered writing articles for local newspapers. They are often in need of good material at a low price. You can often get advertising in exchange plus the mention of your business in your tag line.

If you have any friends that have websites, you can ask them if you can place an ad on their site, and in return, you can place an add for their site on yours. Also, if you are involved in any online forums, you can place a link to your site in your forum signature.
