I know he got stung in the heart by the stingray, but what was fatal about it? Did the stingrays poison cause his heart to stop? Or did the hole in his heart cause him to bleed to death?

This is my field! While toxins were present and pure trauma could have caused an instantanious fibrillation of his heart, it was the removal of the barb and subsequent rapid blood loss that was the most probable cause of death although had he left it in there was probably only a 50% chance of survival at best with immediate and adequate care. Bad odds considering that he was out at sea. Much LOVE to his family!

I don't think there was anyway that Steve Irwin could have survived it whether or not the barb was left in. He had poison directly injected into his bloodstream via a stab through the heart. It was a horrible and tragic accident. I wish all the best for his family.

It's like a sharp, serrated knife. Also, Steve Irwin pulled out the barb which caused extensive damage to his heart. I don't think he woudl have survived if he left the barb in since it contains poison and directly hit his heart too.

yet yet another unhappy occasion of human stupidity and arrogance. it extremely is resembling thinking that the ray intentionally stabbed Irwin because of the fact it "thought" like a man or woman. As I comprehend it, the ray reacted in self-upkeep, as any animal might, because of the fact it felt threatened with the aid of the attentions of Irwin and his digital camera team. for sure, the human beings who did this tragically don't understand Irwin's message.

The barb that carried the poison went to his heart. Though he pulled it out, he died. The public funeral will probably be held this week, since the private one was last week.

While the venom was enough to kill Steve, my personal belief is that by pulling the barb out, he bled to death. He was still breathing when they pulled him out and might have had a chance if he'd let the doctors remove it.

He did not bleed to death. The poison barb directly into his heart caused heart failure.

Probably the hole in his heart. I read that had he not taken out the barb he might have lived longer.
