sunlight. there was some studies done on why people are more depressed during winter months and they linked it to lack of sunlight (vitamin D) . so maybe you should try getting out more. I find that laying out in the sun for an hour or going to a tanning bed when its winter, really puts me in a better mood. If you stay inside all day typing on the computer, youre not getting sunlight.
Also, eat healty and exercise.
If you stay inside, eat crap, and sit on you butt all day, you are not going to feel good. Also, you need to get active. When you arent doing much, you have more time to think how bad or boring or depressed things are.
I disagree with medicating yourself. You'll just become dependent on those medications and thats never a good thing or feeling. All the people i've known that went on anti-depressions turned kinda crazy. I think you should try changing your lifestyle way before you turn to medication. I just dont think those medicines are natural and are not the answer.

I agree with most, you have to see a doctor, plus try to find out if any of your family members suffers or suffered from it, they once told me it runs in the family. Take up a sport like kick boxing or just exercise, it helps alot. You really can't do much if you dont see a specialist but let me tell you, once my doctor told me to watch indian movies, honestly, i did although I did not understand a word but it made me feel better for a short period of time, then again I am not like most ;> Do not ignore your depression seek help it would only get worst through time if you dont.
Good luck and God Bless

Sometimes its a chemical imbalance. It took me almost 10 years to get mine under control with meds. Go to a doc if this has been an ongoing problem. If you are just beginning to feel depressed it could be seasonal. Exercise really helps, too.

Stay hydrated...drink a lot of water. Dehydration really does affect your mood. Also, make sure your calcium and magnesium levels are up. Then, you could try herbals like St. John's Wort or HTP.

I hate to say this, but you need to go to your family doctor and talk to them about your problem. There are several types of drugs out there that may help you. I would stay away from effexor, it is very strong and the side effects are horrible. Wellbutrin and Lexapro are 2 very good options.

Bananas - no kidding.
Plus, just get out and do something - anything - ride a bike, go for a walk, talk to somebody - anybody - just talk. Try to be active. Exercise.
