I turned on my computer and was putting on it's default keyboard that came with it. I did notice instantly but my computer turned off. I tried to turning it back on and it didn't work. I used different power cords and didn't work even a new one. I press the power button and nothing happens, my monitor works so it can't be the power. Do I need to take to the store?
It's a hp pavilion model 6192
I have had it for 6 years and it came with Windows ME. I upgraded it to Windows XP home edition 2002. I didn't use it too much until recently.

I don't think it's dead 'cause you're using your computer right now! How did you post your question? Unless, you used a different computer!

Okay, Yes it is dead because of your description, it sounded like your computer was overheated. Your computer shut down because it is modified to shut down when it detects overheating of your CPU. When you turned it ON, which you shouldn't...you're CPU is too toasted!!!! Now you need to buy a new CPU! I know every hardwares is fine, except your CPU...

Buy a new CPU, which can fit in your motherboard, and it will work again! Be sure to check your motherboard compabilities because it might only accept the same type of CPU or just try to find the same type of CPU!

dust may have caused your power supply to become faulty. are there any lights that come on at the front of the computer. any beeps?

If the computer seems like it has no power running through it, it's probably the power supply. If you've got the parts try replacing this and seeing how you go. If not yeah you will need to take it into the shop for repairs. Id weigh up if it's worth repairing or getting a cheap new one.

good luck!

if you plugged in the keyboard with the computer on you probable caused a power surge that knocked out the power supply

when you turn on your computer does the power supply fans come on? the powersupply is in the top back of the computer where you plug it in lol had to say cause alot of peops on here dont know much about computers

if you have an old computer you could try switching the power supplies if the first one is dead

otherwise do a search on ebay on a friends computer for your computer then click on the parts section you should find a decent priced power supply to replace it with

First of all, it just may be dead. You probably should take the computer to a reputable tech support person to diagnose it. But, is it going to be worth shelling out hundreds of dollars to fix a problem when you can get a new one for about the same cost?

If the computer is old enough that it came with WinME, it may be old enough to think about getting a new one.

About the morons that responded...
These boneheads don't understand that you could be posting a question from a friend's computer. They just wanted points so answered sarcastic things. Ignore them

OMG you killed it
did you check the back of you computer(that is the long thing with out the screen) to see if it's connected to the back or the monitor . or to the power thing. make sure that everything is together at the back of you monitor (the thing that has a screen)

read the mannual and put everthing together again you might have a viuse and it killed your computer or your light is on dark and you have to which it.
like you know that thing that you move so you can make the computer darker or lighter
or just get a new computer

Forget taking it to the store, they'll charge you 100 bucks just to take a look at it.
6 year old computer....I dont know about your financial situation but I would just toss it and get a new one. Its simply not worth fixing it (unless you know someone who can do it for free)
Good luck!

turn the power supply off and on if nothing happens when you try to turn it on make sure inside there are no exposed metal connections touching metal parts of your case. This could short circuit it. If nothing works you might need to buy a new power supply which are cheap if you buy them online.

Take it to be repaired. If its not switching on it good be a problem with the motherboard, or HDD. Either way unless your a pro you won't be able to fix it.
