You know it is funny, there seem to be a lot of girls here who are desperate to use tampons, during a time when more than ever women are stopping using tampons because of their risk to health, cost, environmental damage and for social reasons.
You have more options than just tampons and pads, it is also vital that you know not only about your options but the risks of those options to make an educated choice, I'd recommend you learn about tampons.
Trust me, you would not be so keen on trying to use one if you knew all the issues involved, I'd recommend you try looking into other options such as menstrual cups.

Like everyone else has said, you need to relax. Another thing you can try is buying the slimmer kind, or try using the plastic applicator kind instead of the cardboard kind. Do not use a lubricant because then it'll just soak up all the lube instead of the blood. Take a nice long, warm bath, and after that try again with the tampon. Good luck.

You need to relax yourself before inserting the tampon. When you tense up, the pelvic muscles will tense up as well, and it will make it hard to insert the tampon. I believe you think you are going to hurt yourself, especially, if you are a virgin. Don't worry, you will be fine. Just relax. Do talk with your mom. She needs to know or talk to an aunt. Maybe the school nurse or a teacher (female) could listen to your problem. Just relax.

Pull your pants down, and stick one foot up on the toliet, relax and stick the tampon a few inches inside of you, then press the applicator. You may also want to try some lube.

Put it in at a 45 degree angle. I put one in for the first time the other day, it was really uncomfortable putting it in at first, but then I slanted it a bit upwards, and suddenly it went up really fast and didn't hurt a bit.
You just need to find the right spot!
Good luck.

The first time I used one I had the same problem as you. Just keep practicing. When you put it in, it needs to go in at a slight angle.

You need to relax. If you tense up when you try to insert it, it's harder to get in and it can hurt.
Go into the bathroom during a time when no one will interrupt you. Take a deep breath and relax. Don't shove it in there, just take deep breaths and glide it in slowly.

I just started using a tampon too... I think you should just go ahead and ask your mom how to use it.
