Hudderites are an interesting religion. They used to be more numerous than now, but they still exist in colonies in the American midwest. The Hutterian Brethren or Hutterites are a religious group originating from the Reformation of the 16th century (www.hutteritehistory.org).

It is interesting to note that the Hutterites and Mennonites (and thus the Amish) share common roots. Both of these sects are Anabaptists and both of these movements trace their beginnings to the same period of time, to the same occurrences, during the Reformation.
Their roots are found in Switzerland

Here's their homepage which tells you more about them, including their religion, their customs, traditions schools, and history. You can even listen to a Hutterite choir singing.

They have limited history in the USA, because they were thought to be communist, which is false. They do however live communally in tight-knit communities. Unlike the Amish they are not Luddites, and use technology (often highly advanced) in their communal enterprizes. In western Canada there is a history of antagonism with the local non-Hudderite communities, namely due to the insular and clannish behavior, as well as due to the rather strong buying power of a growing community.

Its actually spelled Hutterite. They are like Quakers, believing in simplicity, humility, and strict moral codes. The background is Germanic I believe.
