Because the human kidney is not designed to handle that much salinity (salt). The result is *severe* dehydration and illness.

Drink Sea Water

This has something to do with osmosis and reaching a state of equilibrium. If a person were to drink salt water, then the body would try to balance the salt content within the body. Therefore, water would be pulled from the body organs to dilute the salt water solution. This will result in severe dehydration which can cause muscle cramping and other dangerous conditions.

First of all, everything goes into the sea. Fish die there, cities throw trash there, factories pollute, and there are dangerous microorganisms. It's certainly not clean. Second, because of the huge about of salt, it dries you up, making you thirstier. In the event where you are desperate enough to drink sea water, you will only get thirstier the more you drink, therefore speeding up dehydration.

Because sea water is saturated with salt and the human body cannot tolerate that much salt in the system.

Aside from the bacteria, etc. in salt///SEA water, iodized salt water would have the same effect on dehydrating the body. Enough dehydration would eventually cause vital organs to shut down and fail.

Sea water is hypertonic - in this case it contains a higher concentration of salt than your cells. When your cells are subjected to a hypertonic solution it causes them to dehydrate and shrivel, not just the kidney but all the cells in your body will respond to this stimuli. If the osmotic balance (water balance) is not restored to your cells it will most certainly cause cell death and eventually organismal death.
