Take control of your life. You are not always going to please people just like they are not always going to please you. If they resort to guilt tactics, let them. Both can play that game.

This question is not about being fair, it's about life. You don't owe her anything, doesn't matter if she raised you or took care of you. She's your mother, and it was a responsibility that cost her money, but that's what she should've thought of before she had you. Look, its one thing to take care of them after they've taken care of you, it's another for them to be leeches...This?? With her moving in with you?? Not right. Not right at all. It's not only invading your right to your privacy with your husband. Give her a deadline to find a job, that if she doesn't find one, that you'll give her a certain amount of money, and she has a decision on what to do with that money, but not to count on you for shelter. And what do you mean won't let you move out...areyou on a shackle??? That's devastating that she broke up you and your husband. It's stressful to live with a parent, talk with her, in a stern way about how things will turn out. Good luck, and Take care. Remember... Maybe you do owe her because she raised you, but the sense in which it means...is entirely different than what she wants...(she wants to be spoiled)

I think it is reasonable and fair to expect your mother to work and share the load. Is she even looking for work? She might actually enjoy a new life.

However finding a job later in life won't be easy. I tried it after raising three kids as a stay at home mom. My office skills were outdated and the competition was much younger by then. Age discrimination is illegal, but it still happens and is hard to prove.

So, I became self-employed as a babysitter. Hard work and little pay. My husband is still the main breadwinner.

Good luck.

I think you need to set some rules and boundries for your mom and you and your husbands relationship needs to be off limits and if she is doing anything to affect that she needs to be made aware. . . There is a difference in taking care of your parents when they are not able to anymore and someone free loading off of you. Take charge of YOUR life while you still can !

Does your mom feel she has no skills to return to work? Talk to her. She might fear working if she hasn't worked in many years. It's harder to go back to work if you haven't done it. She probably would love to work, have a social life once she tries it. Talk to her. Ask her about job training, school, temp services to try a short term job. She'll probably feel better about herself too.
