I have a friend who does it all the time. I have 2 cats and a dog as well as 2 children, and I love my pets, but it annoys me to no end when she says "my cats are my children", even treating them as little furry humans. They're not humans they're animals and I'm offended that anyone could compare an animal's life to a human's.

Owning an animal is NOTHING like having a child. You obviously don't have children if you believe that.

silent*scream, I would hate to be your child. I'll bet Child Protective Services are at your door every week. "Last resort"? What an idiot you are.

No, I don't find it offensive. What I do find offensive is the people who have pets and don't take care of them. Yes, some people are a bit excessive with how they spoil their pets, but at least they're not abusing them or neglecting them like some people do. I'd be more worried about that.
I think you answered your own question, seems to me like you just wanted to voice your opinion.

I have a child and a dog. My daughter is 4 and my dog is 15yrs old. Ive had her since she was 3 weeks old. They are both my children. And yes if it came down to dog or child it would definitely be child. But only as a last resort. I love my dog and would do anything for her. I think its juvenile of you to get offended about how other people want to give their love. So what, get over it.

To some extent yeah its annoying and some people tend to go a bit overboard in how they treat their pets.Like dressing them up,taking them to a spa and doggy psychologist, but in regards to them saying they are like their children I must agree to some extent they are. They depend on you in regards to giving them food and shelter, you have to take care of them when they are sick. You have to clean up after them and teach them manners and they give you unconditional love. The only difference is they never move out of your house, they can't say they hate you and wish they were never born,go to wild parties and can't steal your car keys and take ur car for a joyride. But when it comes down to it when they die you grieve them as much as you would a human that passed.

I think it's kinda creepy when people treat pets like children. People can get really attached to their pets.

you don't have to tell me. My 74 year old grandmother lives with me and she has 2 chiuhauhas and she calls them her babies. She won't let them go outside even though we have a fence, she can't stand to be anywhere and not be able to have them there and she cares more about those dogs than she does her one health! it's amazing what people will do for their animals. I have my own dog and i Love him, but i let him have his freedom.

no, it is annoying to listen to though, much like it's annoying to
listen to
parents talk about their kids . . . no sympathy here. Maybe you
kept yapping about your kids so she was trying to even the
playing field.
I can now see that your friend must be annoyed by you!

Comment back that you can see her "children" take after her in looks and leave it at that.
