it means that you need to take it in and have some grease monkey over charge you to hook it up to a computer to tell you that it needs to have the oil changed...
Normaly when a check engine light comes on it means that you need a diagnosis done and then fix the problems that your car tells the computer it has... Yes your car talks. No its not normal
no im not making this up. be aware in some places you will pay over a hundred dollars to have the diagnosis done. some places will apply that fee to the cost of repairs if you have them fixit withing 30 days... Good luck.

If it is the check engine or service engine light on the computer saw a malfunction and it should be checked. If it just Say's engine it could be an oil pressure problem (Very Serious)
Don't take it to a parts store for diagnose have it checked by an auto technician.

Just like most of the people that replied sayed, you need to have scan, I recomend you take it to Autozone they let you use the scanner for free and it is very easy prosess, you hook the scanner under your dashdoard you will see an electronic port that will only fit the scanner, ounce you connect the scanner you will turn your ignition to the on position and turn the scanner on, press read codes and whalla! it will show you what problem codes u have. you can also clear the codes with the scanner but I don't recomend that until you find out what is the problem and get it fix.
