Try starting in safe mode (hit the f8 when the computer is turning on) . Then go to run>msconfig. Then turn off all the programs that start when windows starts. If you installed a new program try uninstalling it. And if you recently installed a new updated driver try rolling it back. That should do the trick. If that doesn't work as a last resort you can reinstall the os.

it sounds like you have card not seated properly.
turn off pc
unplug
let it power down
open case
touch case before cards (to discharge if have a charge)
remove cards and put right back in.

sound silly to do but dust or contacts may not be complete.

getting a book on "A+" will help but does not have the tricks an technics of a tech

You leave your computer's details out -- operating system? recent changes?

Try pressing F8 when the PC is first turned on and start the PC in "safe mode".
