A chemical abortion is where a saline (salt) solution is inserted into the uterus which causes the womb to contract and expel the fetus. It is sometimes used during the 2nd trimester(.Fetuses less than 6 months can not exist on their own.) It is not a preferred method and doctors do not like to do it. 2nd trimester abortions should be avoided except where the life of the mother is at stake.
