There is a written record (maybe not with the 1st century), but with Medevial Times. Civil War even has photos. There is also a lot of archeological evidence.

Actually a very astute question..,

When we look at the translations to the "Bible".., well.., pretty interesting how thing get changed.. AND LEGITIMIZED !!!!

I am a die hard constituent of the "PROVE IT TO ME " gang.

WELLLL.., Nuf said.

Stop and think.., If it was all transcribed so perfectly.., there would not be any doubts and SO MANY religions!

If that history can, and is mis-interpreted, What is to say that an individual, or organization of people can not have an effect on what is recorded !!!!

How do we know the Civil War in the U.S. existed? I mean, aside from the TONS of photographic documentation, written memoirs, battle plans, letters, family histories, newspaper coverage and so forth?

Well, anyway, there are plenty of historical artifacts from the Medieval era, as well as coins, writings, ruins and other artifacts from ancient Rome. Nearly all civilizations have left their mark upon the Earth. That's what archeology is for, to uncover it.
