I am required to take 20 credit hours in general ed. classes, then 12 credit hours in my area of concentration. That is 32 hours, where do the other 32 hours come from? They can not all be electives...

I thought an associate's degree was only 60 credit hours, that would mean that you only have to take 28 hours of electives...

I would check the course catalog and make sure you added everything up correctly, or check with your faculty advisor if you're really confused.

That said, it doesn't seem unreasonable that your schedule is split up into about 1/3 general education, 1/3 major area and 1/3 electives. I took an insane number of electives for my BA program, at least on in almost every department on campus (it helped keep me well-rounded).

Most majors have a listing of required courses other than general education classes to complete it contained in the course catalogue. However, there might be some electives towards the major in which a person might want to have a specialty within it. My best advice is to chat with an admissions counselor or your advisor for more information.
