Why does 1 + 1 = 2? Never could figure that one out.

it is based on certain axioms (called Peano's axioms)

it is the basis of all numbers and how we define them...

goes like this:
1 is the first natural number & for every number there is a next number; 1 is not a next number to any number... got this?!

hence, as we define 1 as the first, 2 as the second then it is OBVIOUS that 1+1=2

its artificial.We have assigned names to quantities,and arbitrarily decided that a certain quantity plus another certain quantity equals another certain quantity
