The only unalienable truth you listed is getting old. Prices won't necessarily rise, and politicians won't necessarily philander. Few things are based on precedent.

No. Progress is made by denying what everyone holds to be self-evident, and then finding a way to make it so. It used to be an unavoidable truth that you had to amputate a limb with gangrene. Someone disagreed, and now we have antibiotics that cure all but the most serious infection.
