It should be the same as a regular class:
A = 4.0
B = 3.0
C = 2.0
D = 1.0
F = 0.0

In one of the high schools I went to in Cincinnati, Ohio they used a different scale for AP and what they called accelerated classes which were not AP but high level classes and the scoring was:
A = 4.5
B = 3.5
C = 2.5
D = 1.5
F = 0.5

You should check with your guidance counselor. He or she will be able to answer your question because it can be different from school to school.

This is going to be different for every high school. Some school they expect most of the kids to take AP and they dont give any extra boost at all. Giving a 6 on a 4 point system is the most I ever heard of!

Last summer I was doing college visits with my son and EVERY school we visited said that when they get your transcript, they recalculate the gpa. They throw out all the baby courses and just keep the real courses like English, Math, Biology, Spanish, etc. Then they calculate the courses based on a straight system without any extra points for Honors, AP etc. That's the GPA number they use to compare different students.

One school said they only paid attention to AP if you had taken the test and passed with a 3 or better, and another school said they counted all APs and another school said they didnt care about APs.... so you have to check with the school that you are applying to, to find out how they do it.
