Sometime the car, Acura 2.5 TL, starts right away, other times starter does not even crank. I turn ignition off and retry couple of times and it starts. The maximum I had to try is about four times. Cold or warm start does not make a difference. I thought it was battery and have changed the battery. It did not make any difference even with the new battery. Could it be coil?

I think BOOGA is on the right track. If you have the owners manual, look at the main relays. They are located under the hood in a black plastic box.Swap the a/c relay with the starter relay.Check the #s first, but they are usually the same.If it starts 1st time every time you have found the problem. If not ,find a reputable shop to diagnose the ignition system.P.S. if that works,go to your local parts store and purchase a new relay to install in place of the bad one.It should be less than $20

It's not your battery. If it was the battery the car would not even attempt to crank because it would not have enough energy. It is also not one of coils. If you have a bad coil, that particular cylinder the coil goes into will not fire up, but all the rest would fire up. You would be driving on one less cylinder, and you would feel this every time you step on the gas.

The problem is what's called the "Main Relay". It is located underneath the dash below the steering wheel. The main sympton is when the car cranks but doesn't turn over, as in your case. It will do this a lot if the car is left in the sun or it is extremely hot outside. The Main Relay fail all the time in Honda's and Acura's. You have two options. It can be easily repaired if you take it out and resolder the joints with a $20 solder gun from Radio Shack. Or you can have the shop replace it for you (or you could replace it yourself). Either way it only takes about 30 minutes. But I don't have to tell you the shop will charge $100-$200 for this parts & labor. Got anymore questions post em, I'll be glad to help.

No specific answer but about the best you'll get on this venue. I have a '97 Jimmy, and it is doing something similar, including the battery replacement. I talked to an 'ace' mech. and was told that the Jimmy design had redundant anti theft systems built in, collectively about 4, placed in the ignition system, including from the key through to the alternator. If just one of those systems fail, the starting system will present itself similar to what you and I are experiencing. The malfunctioning system and solution must be determined with an diagnostic test program specific to your Acuras' security system. Good luck.

Make sure the car is in park or neutral. sometimes the starter interlock in the gear selector is fussy. Jerk the selector around while trying to start it a few times and see if it helps any.

Could be internal corrosion of battery cable. Not common but does happen, it did to me. Remove cables and look for signs of corrosion (powdery residue or greenish crust) typical of copper corrosion.
