Would it be a good thing or not and why?

It could honestly swing either way. Pressing the case for a black person is Condi Rice and Colin Powell, both of whom were or is the Secretary of State. On the female side, Hilary Clinton is the Democratic frontrunner for 2008 and who knows, maybe Condi might at the last minute run too so we may see an all-female 2008 presidential race?

But if you want my gut instinct, I think we're going to see a female president first. A lot of people in the southern states may be reluctant to vote for a black person. Sorry that's not me being racist but I think it's reality. Not a nice reality but reality nonetheless.

As for whether it's a good idea or not, it really all boils down to the person's talent and if they have what it takes to be the most powerful person in the world. Gestures towards the feminists and the black community are all well and good but if they are total doofs like Bush then where's the good in that?

When it comes to presidents, we should choose talent over gender and skin colour.

Why not? the first answerer develop into correct regardless of the reality that. even regardless of the reality that i attempt to describe that "black" is a loose time period, if Obama were as brown as me (i'm miscegenated with ecu and local American), he don't have made it previous the primaries. E pluribus unum develop into maximum suitable about the "descending order" difficulty. Obama were given 2-thirds of Hispanic help. i imagine u . s . has taken a step contained in the right direction by employing electing a qualified candidate except a White male. a qualified White woman or any woman president can be a alluring experience. In fairness, in spite of the undeniable fact that, a legacy of Anglo presidents of any sex isn't any diverse from previous kings and queens rule of ecu countries. not too radical.

black man. The country (U.S.) is not about to elect a woman president for a long time to come. Women have come far, but when it comes to the highest office in the land, they back off.
Whether or not it will be a good thing, I suppose that depends.

It's not in the color. It's in the person.

no difference and both are perfect. A black or Woman as a president guarantee that the president won't be bush anymore.

I would assume a female president, if only because they make up a larger percentage of the population, and also there seem to be more of them in high office.

Probably black man. Colin Powell might stand a chance. America is too stupid to elect a woman because they will be told she won't be tough enough to wage wars. Its stupid, but so are American voters, weak, stupid, politically naive and easily taken in.

i hope it will be a black because women should have no place in government. they are supposed to stay home and take care of domestic problems while the husband works. and if necessary get a job such as a secretary, or waitress, or nurse in order to help at home. look at all the trouble we're having now because of WOMEN AND liberals in congress. we didn't have all this mess as long as women were in the home taking care of the children and teaching them values and keeping them out of gangs. they have completely forfieted their role in american society.---a woman for president?---NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!!
