Everybody has free will, so it's not a privilege. I guess you might consider it a burden if you don't like making your own decisions. But there are plenty of people who will run your life for you if you don't feel like taking any responsibility for yourself. I don't think it's either. It's just something you do, like breathe or eat. It would suck if you had it taken away from you, because it's supposed to just...be there.

Free will is neither. It is a basic human right, that both God, and the Constitution gave us, although it is slowly being taken away from us by "Big Government" by BOTH parties. Many of the laws that have been set into motion which deprives us of free will, are the way we raise our children as we see fit as parents is a good example, which Clinton put into motion. is but one of them. I'm not saying that there aren't some bad parents out there, but the government sure doesn't have all the answers that they think they do either. I'm not saying that smoking is great for you, but having consideration of others is paramount. It's being blamed for everything wrong with us these days, just as stress, some years back, although I agree that is a faction in some problems, but not everything. We can always depend on the government to take advantage of a potential problem and miss use it.
I worked off and on in security for over thirty years, and have, I kid you not, officers tell me that the most abused law in the books was the DUI laws. We can't have a lawyer present to protect our rights, because their excuse is that driving is a privilege, not a right, but this shouldn't mean that we can't be protected under the law.
Remember it is only free will and our rights, until we infringe on someone elses rights, and free will.
So before you turn over decisions, that you yourself should make, and we all will make mistakes in our decisions, it's still our decision to make, we need to remember that free will is a right and not a burden, even though it may seem so sometimes. Be glad you still have the free will, and the right to make that decision.

I believe that free will is a given not a privilege. I'm sure some can say that free will is a burden especially if they are consistently making poor choices in life. Free will is nature - don't abuse it. We all have the power to make decisions, act a certain way, say what we want, etc.

Smiles,,, I happened to see the first sentence of the first answer.
Free will is inherant, though many of us don't feel we have the grace of it, or the ability to exercise it, we grow into it, by circumstance, maturation, education, ability, situations, and Our greatest freedom,,,that being CHOICE.
Certainly it can be burdensome. We often exercise free will impulsively, or abstractly, and occasionally there are negative consequences,,,IE: The will to speak out, especially against something, and possibly be in the minority. That doesn't say we should shut up,,, it just relates to knowing intuitively when to temper what we say, against what others believe.
Also Free Will doesn't strictly give us a license to act inappropriately, especially when that goes against moral standards, legal statutes, or anothers Free Will.
It's one part of the test known as Life,,,and it seems to be a question, on that test, that has multiple choice answers. Right, may not always be "right"

Manda,
Good thought
Free will is most
definitely a privilege
which carries burdens
with it.
If I make a decision,
and everything turns
out wonderful, kudos
to me,
However, it all goes wrong,
yikes, I've no one to blame
but myself.
And to many, I would even
venture to say that to most
people, in the long run this
becomes an unbearable
weight.
At that stage, it becomes
much easier to have someone
else make all decisions and
we just sit back and criticize
when thing go bad, and very
rarely applaud the successes.
Makes sense?

Good question, but it has to be a privilege cos if it were taken away from you, you'd know about it. Self control, is fundamental in life btw
