I'm curious. How do they do this? And why don't they ensure their popularity for all time by keeping them always low? After all, it looks like most of you have caught on tho the scheme, negating any benefit they'd get from it.
Again, how do the republicans lower gas prices? By convincing the companies to pump more oil? Well, that wold make sense if all the people in charge of pumping oil didn't hate Bush: Hugo Chavez, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, Vladimir Putin, Hu Jintao. Most of the countries that produce oil aren't too fond of the US right now, so tell me how Bush manages to convince them to go full production?

Oh Stephaniemarie, my favorite moonbat! Ok, so if the president has all this control over OPEC, which includes Iran, with the LARGEST oil supply, Syria, Lebanon, Venezuela (our largest supplier), Indonesia, then WHY do those countries consistently voice their hatred of the US? Is it all just one big Republican shell game? Why would those countries, the MAJORITY of the OPEC countries, want to help Bush's party in the coming elections?

Trish! Another barking moonbat! You know, I've been making close observations of my own lately, and I have concluced that the sun indeed travels around the earth. I wake up in the morning and it is on one side of the sky, and I observe over the day how it moves across the sky and sinks on the opposite horizon. So there. My observation. It must be correct because that's what I see.

The Republican Party does not control oil prices. The free market does, with some exceptions. Please study the concept of supply and demand, so you can intelligently see why the price of ANY commodity moves up and down.

Since you're seeking a conspiracy theory.. I'll make one up.
He sent out top CIA Agents to all the major oil producting countries, they hid suitcase Nuclear Bombs in the capital cities, and then President Bush threatened to detonate them if Oil prices did not drop before the elections.
Or of course it could be the fact that oil production in the middle east is staying consistent, some new major oil discoveries have been announced, no severe hurricanes this year, the gulf coast is recovering, the summer gasoline rush is over, and on and on and on..

Admittingly it has to be more than coincidence that oil companies that spend millions on republican campaigns are selling oil for less now.
Despite that the reason oil prices are going down is that oil companies have been storing oil up in their private reserves. Now those stocks are about to overflow as none of the fear driven speculation on future production drops have become true. Now oil companies are afraid of having to store excess oil at their expense. That is why the prices are dropping.
As you can see supply and demand have nothing to do with it this time. It is all about excess oil stockpiles.
Was this all planned? If it was then there is a unusual cooperation among competing oil speculators.

NOT rocket science...The mid-term elections are just about here, so somehow mysteriously...after gouging Americans for months and making billions in profits...oil companys can now lower prices so that the same political people (the repubs) that made it possible to gouge us can now preach to the voters, as they certainly are: The economy is looking up...gas prices are droping...etc..etc. It is to make them look good and gather up the votes of many foolish Americans who fall for all their tricks and lies! Still!!! Even when they have the proof of this....they keep them in the White House...in Congress! It is unbelievable!...but true!

Its not the presidents job to dictate prices for goods, that is the job of the market. It is our own counties fault for not developing refining capacity nor new oil drilling to keep up with our inflated demand. Not to mention all the mindless drones running around in their large trucks and SUV's that dont need it. If everyone throughout the history of the US only drove what they had to, we wouldnt have a huge demand for oil and be in this mess to begin with!

Well, after the REPUBLICAN OIL COMPANY OWNERS have made RECORD PROFITS from price-gouging us the last 2 years, they decided to give us a little break to help their neo-con politician puppets get re-elected. Then they'll slam us with high prices again. What can we do...they KNOW we will pay...and we do. God bless the neo-con capitalist tyrants who bleed us dry, and trod uncaringly across our mangled, worn-out, carcasses for the sake of PROFIT.
If you listen to the FDA, you'll feel MUCH better: TONS of carbs, and ONLY triple-priced drugs from American suppliers. You'll be too fat and drugged up to care.

Ok douche bag since you insist on asking inflammatory question. Bush doesnt have to control the countries that hate us, Bush is friendly with Saudi Arabia, all opec has to do is keep prices down through the election.
I mean how ******* stupid are you people to not see this, obviously Bush doesnt wave a wand and make gas prices go down. One week ago in my local newspaper I read how opech is watching oil prices and will cut oil production if prices dont stabilize, ya know when in early fall, Oh wait what else is in early fall jackass????? Think just please if you can..Oh thats right the ******* mid term election. I am so sick of you Bush loving nazi like kool aid drinking hypocrites who just blindly parrot whatever you are told like little sheep.Open your god damn eyes and view this man for what he is.The little puppet who dances to the tune of those who put him in power.

Try this:
Gas prices spiked when MTBE was removed and ethanol took its place. There was not enough ethanol at the time and import tariffs are insane. Then we had the summer, which is the peak demand. Now that summer is over, demand is coming down. It is simple economics.
