I knew a lot who were. The "popular" ones were mean and racist no matter how hard you tried to get out of their way. Some of them weren't bad when you were just alone working with them but when they're around other people (which is pretty much all the time) they love being mean 'cause it scares people into submission. The mean and racist ones were also the ones who never did their work or studied...so yeah, there are several jocks who are as unpleasant and mindless. Although realistically no one does stuff like shove nerds into trash cans...it's more along the lines of just constant verbal insults.

When I was in high school I had to catch a ride home with my brother because he had the car. He'd have all his jock buddies in there as well. One day one of his friends stuck himself out the window and wacked a bicycle rider (while he was riding) with a big pillow. The poor guy did a flip with his bike and landed on the road and all they could do was laugh in the car. I punched my bro and got out. It seems to me that jocks think being cruel is funny and that it is up to them to keep that "stereotype" alive.

For the most part, no, but it all depends on the school I would say.

I have seen that it's really more noticable in predominantly white schools. It's those school where most of the high school stereotypes are easier to notice.

Yes and no. Many do tend to be underachievers academically, but the movies play it up. They exaggerate the stereotype to add humor.

Think of Michael Jackson imitations and jokes. Does Michael really walk around doing spins, moon walks and yelling "hee hee!" and grabbing his crotch? No, of course not, yes, he has done it - but it is exaggerated.

for the most part, but it's really because of their age rather than because they're "jocks".
