make sure your electrical connections are tight and not corroded. That is usually the problem.
The best price I've found for most of my parts is at www.rockauto.com

I agree I don't think it is the starter it is more like... needs a tune up.
Plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve.
the starter doesn't make it start it just makes the engine rotate. now if it is turning over real slow....maybe but then that's a wole nother issue of the battery ofr the starter. How old is the battery...If the battery is weak it will cause the electrical to not allow the motor to fire since all the amperage is trying to turn over the engine.....Try this turn on the head lights and start the car if the lights go dim at all then the battery is weak....
BUT I would do the tune up first...a 97 is probably due..

You probably do not have a starter problem. You shoul first A. Clean and tighten the battery cables at the battery. B. Check the connections at the starter. C. Check or tighten the battery to engine block ground. If this does not cure the problem, find a reputable shop to further diagnose the ignition system.

Holy crap. I just got through reading the answers of the USA people who answer. Why does it cost so much to get a starter New or rebuilt). these are easy to replace with new ones and why get a new one. just go to a automotive electrical shop. Normally the only thing to go is the bushing and this can be replaced easily as well. Here in Mexico to get a starter taken out and rebuilt (new bushing /solonoid) will cost about 100 peso or $10.00 USD. The most it may go to is 150 peso or $15.00 USD.

Sometimes it may even be as simple as a loose connection, or, dirty battery terminals, maybe the solenoid.
Most auto parts venues have web sites and there are just too many to list here. Take a walk through the phone book and there will be a listing of local stores and their web addresses.
Prices will be different between manufacturers and their respective warantees.
Good luck!

depending on the parts store, Napa is usually the cheapest route, I had a 1993 Geo Prism and the starter went out of it and when we went tohave it replaced it was connected to another part which cost 130.00 so in total mine was around 175.00
Good luck..

does it make a horrible noise or does it just click? Click is a loose connection, probably fat power cable to starter, horrible noise is a flat spot on the flywheel/convertor ring gear or a loose starter.
