In response to the Pope's recent university speech, in which he quoted a 14th century exchange between a Muslim and a Christian, in which the Christian said "Islam is a religion spread by the sword" Muslims have had violent protests in several countries. To date, Islamic rioters have burned five churches to the ground, and are threatening more violence.
The Pope said he regretted that his comments offended some Muslims, but the Muslims are demanding a more expansive apology. In the interim, their violent riots and condemnations continue.
Islamists keep telling us that Islam is a "religion of peace," yet they seem unable to tolerate any criticism. First, the outrage over a cartoon -- now this. Do you believe their "outrage" is at all justifiable? Do you believe that given the Islamic response to criticism, that others should censor their speech? Lastly, do you believe Islam is, or could be, at all compatible with a free world?

Their response was/is consistant with their violent nature. They murdered a Nun over this. What kind of outrage would they have if we slaughtered a muslim cleric. No i don`t believe a free world can exist with the standard of their beliefs. I have been there, i have seen them blow themselves up, i have seen their maltreatment of their own women and children, i have seen them murder their own by the hundreds just to kill a few westerners. I hope westerners wake up and see the holy war before it `s too late.

You obviously know NOTHING about Islam so you've lost any and all credibility. Second, Muslims have every right to be angry. I am Catholic and I am pissed off over this. I don't think a nun should have been killed over this--murder is wrong plain and simple, but I do understand why Muslims around the world are upset--with every right. Third, you cannot say Islam is violent because of the actions of the minority. Islam's largest population is in Indonesia and you don't see them blowing up buildings do you? Muslims in the Arab world are getting all the attention and thats what people are basing their opinions of Islam on. Most Arabs aren't even Islamic, some are Christian. But the media associates Islam with Arabs and terrorism so people think that Muslims and Arabs are violent. Christians don't have a peaceful history that goes beyond the Crusades and even today their hands still aren't clean.
How would Christians feel if a religious figure called Christian teachings evil and inhuman? Of course they would be upset but history does prove that Christians have done violent things too. So does that mean that Christians are a violent religion?

libra your skipping about the 1200 years of how Christianity spread.. it was spread by the blood of the martyrs for the first 300 years... Humans and their fallen nature are sure to screw things up over time but it doesn't change the faith.. I challenge people to read the whole speech and make your own opinion and you will see as always extremist muslims and their impulsive behavior are wrong.. Christians have surely done horrible things over the past 2000 years the difference is we no it is wrong and our religion can't justify doing any evil for any reason... Jihad isiin the koran the pope didn't make it up..
if islam is the religion of peace do some research and see how it spread from day one

That's the pot calling the kettle black. I am a non-Islamic person and I think the Pope had a lot of nerve.
He should focus on how Christianity was spread. Christians have a very violent history...think of all the wars throughout Europe, the Crusades and the Inquisition. Think of when Europeans kidnapped, imprisoned and made blacks work for free, the Conquistadors, the missions in America and slaughter of Native Americans. Think the Holocaust. Think of how Christians harass and bomb abortion clinics and hatred against gay or anyone who doesn't believe in the Christian faith.

I agree with the Pope and the Muslims are proving it as truth. Its bad enough the radical muslims are violent, but now the supposed peaceful muslims are showing violence by burning churches and rioting. Doesnt make sense to me. Its unfortunate that they still live in the Middle Ages.

There are certainly very very large communities of peaceful Muslims who get along with and interact regularly with the ''free'' world, whatever that means. The response of the fanatics is all anyone wants to pay attention to. The difference, I believe, between religious fundamentalists in the US and those in the middle eastern Muslim nations, is the level of basal education the two groups have received and the state of affairs in the nations they were born in. Remember, you didn't choose to be born in the country you were born in any more than they chose the country they were born in. That could be you standing there burning a church with your friends.

The Muslim reaction is evidence of the Pope's statements as being true. What's next, car bombings in Vatican City? Something like that will bring the world into perspective as to how violent the radical Muslims are, and unite with the U.S. in fighting their dirty deeds.

He was just telling the truth. We can all see with our own eyes what their religion teaches.
No it cannot be compatible. I took a class on various religions. The guy who wrote the book used to be a Muslim, now he's a Christian. Ergun Caner...look him up.
He says their religion teaches them to "convert or kill" so there is no way it will ever work.
