The reason for the hate may have noting to do with clowns, but to what they symbolize.
The clown symbolizes a grotesqueness of imagery masquerading as funny... but any rational person would see that the image is a masking of something else. Their image is, in other words, dishonest. The clown also suggests another sinister aspect of human nature, as do masks generally, including the masks worn by criminals. One cannot trust what one sees, and for those who depend upon their sight, perhaps serving for a diminished sense of intuitive insight, clowns would trigger some anxiety or disharmony, which could, if sufficient, be converted by ones MIND into hate and then projected toward the "cause" of ones anxiety.
I suspect this idea that they cannot be seen as what they are is of value to ponder. Drift back a bit in memory and see if some member of your family or some neighbor gave forth one face, and behaved quite differently, perhaps even threatening to a child?
Best I can do.... Peace

Clowns are, by their very nature, creepy as hell. There's no need for any deeper reason. Some people find certain things cool or funny, and some people see something monstrous or wrong in that same thing. This is one of those times, so you should feel no shame for your dislike of clowns.

Lots of people hate clowns, I know a guy that gets freaked out every time he sees one and hes 27. I think it has to do with the fake painted on smiles... or maybe John Wayne Gacy... or both
in any event, theyre just freaky

Perhaps because they remind you of having to hide hurtful feelings? A clown wears a painted smile ("masque") for the world to see, yet who knows that he's crying beneath the grease-paint, or that his heart is breaking right before the world, and no one notices? Who knows what sorrows a person suffers next to us, wearing a smile and yet crying beneath the masque (not "mask"), wanting to die with each breath taken? That is what clowns represent, hidden physical pain and emotional suffering disguised as laughter and joy. Can it be that you have had to hide feelings of sorrow and sadness?

Have you ever met one without their face on? Maybe you hate clowns because you just do. If you're really worried about it talk to a local psychologist. But as long as you can still function in society don't worry about it.

I find it disturbing because there facial expressions are exaggerated and/or hidden.
When I am have a discussion with/ or inter action with someone I want to be able to see their eyes and facial expressions.
perhaps you feel the same and thus your dislike of clowns.
