If she looks good for her age. Let her go for it. I was out shopping the other day, there was this woman in her 40's. She said, all these clothes are for the teeny boppers. So there's a choice of Grandma's clothes... or teeny boppers. Hard to choose what you want to wear.

OK I am the same age as you and I have no problem with a relative or relative-in-law (if I had one) of mine wearing similar clothing to me. I think the reason for that is because I dress my age but don't wear clothing that is too revealing, therefore anyone with a reasonable figure would not look bad in the type of clothing I wear. So either a) you're uncomfortable with your mother-in-law for looking young and attractive, b) she's competing with you or c) she looks bad in the clothes. If the answer is a) get over yourself and be happy for your husband's mother, b) try to ignore it and if it becomes a problem ask your husband to speak to her or c) quietly and privately take her aside and sensitively inform her that her clothing is unflattering for her. As to what age is old it's a state of mind but I think most people would agree 70+ is old.

I believe that you have actually asked two questions.
The first question is what age are you considered to be old. My answer would be you are as old as you feel or that Old is in the eye of the beholder. I happen to be in my 60's and assure you I do not feel 'old'.
The second questions is should your MIL at the age of 45 wear the same clothes that a 20 year would wear. IF you MIL has the figure I would say that she could modify the clothes somewhat to keep to her age group but could still carry off the styles as long as she remembers her age. Is she trying to compete with you? If so, shame on her.

What a question...I would say that "old" is relative. Perhaps you mean "older"? When I was 20 I would have thought that 40 was old. Now that I'm 40, I'm thinking that 65 is old.

As for what the mother-in-law wears...none of your business! There is a rule that I firmly believe in and that is "Just because they make it in your size doesn't mean you should wear it." This rule applies to EVERYBODY. 20 years or 45 years.

Well if you're that old and you're body is naturally small...It would be alright but once you reach a certain age, like 26 or so, its time to act grown up. Depends on what you wear.
