In order to record the movies from tapes, download a software that will record directly onto the DVD instead of a computer. You will need DVD-R for recording once. If you want to erase and re record, yoou will need DVD-RW.

What I suggest if you have the money is a DVD/VCR combo unit that can record to both tapes and DVDs specifically an all in one type that can transfer movies from DVD to tape or tape to DVD, A unit like this will run about $250.00 to $450.00 in range for a cheap unit that can do what you want done. Good luck with locating one. I have seen them but as yet they are not yet common place.
I hope this information helps you.
