joe c: Kentucky is beautiful, and a nice place to visit. The folks I've met there have sure been rude, though.

Again, friendly people will find friendly people in every state. Mean people will find mean people in every state. That's just how it works.

I am from south jersey and I have a rental company. When people rent items I require a drivers license. I always ask out of staters how they like Jersey, nearly every one of them say "The people here are so nice." People from the midwest where you would assume polite people would live also give me the same answer. North Jersey is not quite as nice- too close to NY and too much $$ snooty. So my answer is NJ has both the friendliest and the least friendly people.

I'm not sure about the most atheist-friendly, but I will have to disagree on NYS being one of them. I live in a more suburban town in upstate New York, and I can tell you that these people are very, very unaccepting. I've never actually met an atheist in real life who lives here (or at least, somebody who made it known). The city, now, I could see how that would be atheist-friendly, but we must keep in mind that NYC definitely does not account for all of New York state...

I live in Nevada, and the people here are very friendly. I used to live in Pennsylvania, the people there weren't unfriendly but they weren't particularly friendly either. I have met quite a few unfriendly people from New Jersey, but I've also known plenty of friendly people from there. As for New York, most of the people who I know who live in NY don't live in the city, and they're friendly. NY city is not very friendly.

But this is just my opinion. I'm sure all states have their share of friendly and unfriendly people, so it really depends on who you know and where in each state you've been.

Hi, lone_star.., I've lived in Texas, too...not that friendly, though. Cheyenne, WY is way friendlier. For the most unfriendly, it'd have to be folks on the east coast! Most midwest states have proven to be alright. Midwest white chics, however, are NOT friendly...even the cashiers at Wally-World are pretty bitchy...the white one's, of course. Hey, I'm not being racist!!!!! I AM A WHITE CHIC!! (@ least I try to treat ppl with respect).

Oh, good grief...what am I blabbin' all this for...LOL

Tennessee and Kentucky seem to be very friendly. I think it's the southern access. Southern people can say the meanest thing but in their accent it doesn't seem so mean. :) The catch phrase "Y'all come back now, ya hear?" just comes off as friendly too!!
