Bad plots, bad acting, totally unfunny ...where is the british version of friends for example? And to think we pay a license fee for all this...

It depends what you watch. I will grant you that we haven't had a decent comedy series for about 20 years.

However it is unfair to compare our TV with US TV. What we see in this country of US TV is not necessarily representative of the general quality of US TV. We only tend to see the better end of the spectrum.

Our Drama series, News and Documentaries are much better than most of the offerings in the US. Even the new Dr Who is competetive with current American Scifi and the Americans have much more money available per episode.

I agree with you whole heartedly but can I just correct you.

I don't pay a TV license any more, and don't intend to ever again.
I can't believe the current spin that the fee can ONLY go up by a further thirty quid, not the fifty they wanted. Yeah right, like they didn't only ever want the extra 30 to start with but asked for 50 and waited to be bid down.

ITS NOT WORTH 130 QUID, LET ALONE 160.

I rarely watch British television I'm so glad I have Sky I recommend it.
I never watch any of the BBC channels or even listen to their radio channels I prefer internet radio even with the ads & I have to admit I prefer American tv shows like House MD, Law & Order and C.S.I the U.K version of these shows are pitiful to say the least.

The worst thing is being forced to pay the licence fee for channels & shows I never watch it should be by choice I'm sure the BBC would be shocked at the amount of people that wouldn't pay to watch the tripe they show.

Hey, is TV getting bad over there? How sad.

In the U.S. a while back, Three's Company was originally taken from a British show. Because it used to be TV was BETTER in the UK than over here!

I'm in Canada...When I was growing up, my mom would only let us kids watch BBC TV, she hated all north american TV...we watched I Claudius, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Doctor In The House, All Creatures Great and Small, Upstairs Downstairs, Fawlty Towers, even Benny Hill...

Coupling was kind of a British version of friends buy waaaay funnier in my humble opinion.
And if we didn't pay a licence fee, any programme that didn't generate a lot of income from multinationals wouldn't be broadcast. I think it's a small price to pay for (semi) independent progamming.

The bristish version of friends was called singles and was on a few years ago, it was much better. If you watch sky which is full of american shows and 20 minutes of adverts for each 10 minutes of program, the BBC isn't doing too badly.

I'm not sure US stuff's any better to be honest. Friends isn't really amusing - it was written by a team of about 20 sycophants who filmed it before a live audience and rewrote it if it didn't receive the correct amount of laughter - could you imagine that happening in the UK???

I agree. Don't buy that plasma/HD/LCD set you had always promised yourself!! The only saving grace for our TV in my opinion are the soaps Coronation St & Emmerdale and the kids' TV programmes which proves that <16's can make better actors!
