You have to tame this yourself. Noone else can change you. At least you are over the hard parts. You realize you have a problem and want to change. That`s a major step in the right direction. I have a sort of short fuse like that too when it comes to people irritating me. I just focus on what they did at that moment and not all the things they have done for me in the past. Usually I just try to take a step back from the situation and think about why I am mad and weigh it against what has happened in the past with this person and what kind of relationship we have had. And another thing I try to do is before I go off or say anything to that person, I go over the words in my mind, think of how much that person means to me and put myself in their shoes and think of how I would feel if I were them and someone said that to me. Sometimes there isn`t time for all that thinking and reasoning and things are said or actions are taken that I regret. Whenever you are mad or irritated I think you should just try to think about what you are going to make that person feel like and what kind of relationship you have with them. I know that in the moment of anger or frustration it is hard to focus on something like that and not just go off but you have to try. People around you who pick up your behavior are probably only doing it to be on your good side. They probably think that if they act like you you will like it and not act that way toward them. You have to change yourself and nobody can do that for you but you.
